System Engineer – Storage and Backup ITO

Job Description

The primary focus of the role is to provide IS enterprise Storage/Backup Infrastructure management, administration and support; to deliver highly available storage and backup services to support critical IT and business systems. The successful candidate will also be expected to manage key infrastructure projects and support IT Service Continuity related initiatives.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Responsible for infrastructure operations and management; servers, storage, networking and appliances, virtualization which deliver highly available enterprise storage and backup services
• Administration and operation management of HDS, Pure, EMC based SAN Storage Systems
• Administration, configuration and maintenance of the enterprise backup infrastructure and systems
• Perform systems Backup and Recovery
• Be the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for the storage and backup systems and operations
• Proactively monitor the performance and availability of the backup system components to ensure high availability of backup services
• Troubleshoot and report system incidents/problems and abnormalities
• Installation, Configuration, Migration of new/replacement storage and backup systems
• Support IT Audit Compliance & Governance related requirements
• Perform system tuning including monitoring, troubleshooting and optimizing performance
• Execute Incident management, Change Management and Problem management in line with ITIL standard
• 24×7 standby support

PERSON SPECIFICATION

• Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or equivalent with more than 5 years of relevant experience
• Possess extensive experience in Enterprise storage management and support:
• Extensive exposure in Storage Administration.
• Experience in Block and File level administration of HDS, EMC Storage Arrays and PURE Storage
• Experience in Storage Health checks, Switches Health Check, Switches Firmware upgrades and Storage Migrations
• Demonstrable experience of managing high-performance, high-capacity Storage Arrays in a critical production environment.
• Experience in DR activation and strategy.
• Strong knowledge in Storage Replication technologies.
• Implementation experience of Storage allocation, reclamation, replication and migration
• Implementation experience of Storage level replication and migration
• Implementation experience of Hosts zoning, unzoning and firmware upgrades on the switches
• Well versed in ISL, Port-channel configuration
• Experienced in SAN Switch to Blade servers & Cisco UCS connectivity
• Possess good knowledge in backup technology and operations
• Hands-on experience in Veritas Netbackup and EMC Data Domain is desirable
• Familiar and experience in system administration (Unix, Windows)
• Experience in Cisco Switches configuration, management and support
• Strong technical troubleshooting skills
• Possess good knowledge in Capacity Planning and trending analysis
• Good experience in scripting (ksh, Python, Perl and Java Programming) and able to write script for automation task is advantages
• Knowledge and hands on experience in the following key technologies would be advantageous:
• Networking, TCPIP, SAN switches
• IT security and OS hardening
• Virtualization, VMware, Citrix
• Knowledge in Disaster Recovery (DR), implementing DR solution and procedures
• Understanding of ITIL concepts, in particular Change, Incident and Problem Management
• Project Management skills
• Strong analytical thinking, good interpersonal and communication skills 
• Good team player and highly motivated, goal-oriented individual with a proactive approach to work
• Possess drive and initiative to work independently in a dynamic and challenging environment
• Technically inclined and with a keen interest to learn on new technologies.
